IAC Board Meetings The Immigrant Assistance Center's Board meets are held on a monthly basis at locations around our community. Please check out the front page of this website for the date/location of our upcoming meetings. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.
Bylaws To view our current bylaws (approved 7/19/06) click here. Signatures are on file in our office. The IAC Board The Immigrant Assistance Center is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. Our Board members include: Martitha May, Chairperson Martitha was born and raised in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico then immigrated to the United States. She is a wife and mother. She is a committee member for the Mesa Redonda de Kitsap and is a member of El Centro’s Transition Task Force Board. Martitha is a certified YWCA Domestic Violence Victim Advocate and received certification from Washington State University as a "Strengthening Family" educator. Martitha can also be found at El Centro de la Familia, teaching clients how to cook more nutritious meals and leading their exercise program. Tom Fairchild, Vice Chair ~bio coming soon~. Imelda Moore, Secretary/Treasurer Imelda is currently a volunteer member council for Kitsap County Council for Human Rights appointed by Commissioner Patty Lent. The Council advises the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners and residents on issues related to discrimination, racially motivated violence, and malicious harassment. The Council promotes equitable treatment of all citizens and reduces prejudice through prevention policies, education, resource referral and advocacy. She has worked as a student club advisor for Newcomers in America at Olympic College by providing support and guidance to new immigrants in Kitsap County. Imelda is very involved in Kitsap community. Lorene Leider, Board Member Lorene Leider was born in Washington and grew up in Mexico. She is married and has two children. After homeschooling them, she finished college through WSUs Distance Degree Program and now teaches English as a Second Language, English Language Civics, and Family Literacy to Latino students through the Literacy Council of Kitsap. She is a member of the Mesa Redonda and North Kitsap's Common Threads. Carol Etgen, Board Member Carol is the City Clerk for the City of Bremerton. She is a graduate of Leadership Tri-Cities a former Board Member of Hope Home (Tri-Cities Home for Pregnant and Parenting Teens), a former Board Member of the Kitsap County Dispute Resolution Center, a former Certified Childbirth Educator, and a former Hospice Volunteer in the Tri-Cities. Currently she is a Kitsap County Human Rights Council Member and a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians. Carol is the mother of two wonderful sons, the stepmother to one wonderful stepson and two wonderful stepdaughters, and a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren (by Marriage!). Immigrant Assistance Center Key Organizational Staff April Borbon, Director April has been a business owner for twelve years. She is a member of the Mesa Redonda de Kitsap, is the founder of the Immigrant Assistance Center, has taught English as a second language for four years, participates in the Kitsap County Minority Services Committee, coordinates the Spanish language DUI Panel, and spends her vacations traveling to third-world countries in order to bring medical and other needed supplies to those in need. |
